Inuit Film Network Launched in Rankin Inlet

by admin ~ November 29th, 2006

Telefilm Canada and the Makivik Corporation provide backing to Inuit film showcase, and launching of film network in Rankin Inlet. Isuma Distribution International is the Inuit production company started by Zacharias Kunuk with the popular release of “Atanarjuat’s: Fast Runner.” The production company’s second film, “The Journals of Knud Rasmussen,” opened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and features stories about the legendary Danish explorer and the Inuit communities he visited in the 1920s. According to reviews, the film is an evocative mix of sounds, hand held shots, and impressionistic narratives, that the CBC describes as “working on the soul more than the brain.” The new film network seeks to bring Inuit and First Nations productions to aboriginal communities in the North, and especially small communities without a theater, and throughout Canada and elsewhere with film projectors and internet video downloads.
