Management Options for Temagami Wilderness, Parks, and Conservation Reserves

by admin ~ January 25th, 2007

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) and Ontario Parks are finalizing the management options for Temagami and related parks, conservation reserves, and crown lands: Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater (wilderness class), Obabika River, Makobe-Grays River, Solace, and Sturgeon River (all waterway class parks). Public hearings took place on Oct 25th (Ottawa), Oct 26th (Toronto), Jan 24 (Ottawa), Jan 25 (Toronto) as part of the Temagami Integrated Planning (TIP) Process. The MNR and Ontario Parks recently released its draft of the TIP, and while no new hearings are planned … public comments can still be made by letter to the MNR North Bay office:

Rick Calhoun, District Planner
MNR North Bay District
3301 Trout Lake Rd
North Bay, Ont P1B 4L7
Ph # (705) 475-5546
Fax (705) 475-5500
Email: TIP@mnr.gov.on.ca

Letter templates are available at Earthroots (where they recommend a Feb 14 deadline). Logging of old growth forests, motorized transportation, and the protection of historic canoe routes are major concerns.
