Podcast: Willie Hensley presents his book, “Fifty Miles from Tomorrow: A Memoir of Alaska and the Real People”

University of Alaska AnchorageWillie Hensley will give a presentation of his long-awaited memoir on Friday evening, Feb. 6, on the UAA campus. The event, free and open to the public, will include a personal photo slideshow and a book signing. Hensley’s just-published book, Fifty Miles from Tomorrow: A Memoir of Alaska and the Real People, chronicles his life from his boyhood and youth in Kotzebue, to his adventures in a Tennessee boarding school, to his rise as one of the great Alaska Native leaders. His 1966 essay demanding land rights for Natives played a critical role leading to passage in Congress of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971.
