Federal Funding and Support for the Development of a UNESCO World Heritage Site Nomination for Grand Pré

Parks Canada (News Release) – The cultural landscape of Grand Pré is on Canada’s Tentative List along with eight other sites that were deemed as having the best potential over the next decade to be added to the World Heritage List. The Tentative List, completed in 2004, includes the natural and cultural sites that Canada may consider presenting to UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee for consideration as World Heritage Sites. An Advisory Board was set up in 2007 to nominate Grand Pré as a potential World Heritage Site. The Advisory Board is co-chaired by the Kings Community Economic Development Agency and the Société Promotion Grand-Pré. The Board includes representatives of the local community, the Acadian community, the Mi’kmaq, the business community, farmers, and the municipal, provincial, and federal governments.
