New policies open disputed Nunavut-N.W.T area to mining

CBC North – New mining policies adopted by the Kitikmeot Inuit Association (KIA) could allow mining exploration to take place in an area that includes both Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. Board members with the association, which represents Inuit land-claim beneficiaries in western Nunavut, have unanimously voted to adopt policies they say will give clarity to mining companies that want to explore and mine on Inuit-owned surface land areas in the Kitikmeot region.
