University of Alaska regents OK indigenous studies doctoral program

Fairbanks Daily News – Miner – The University of Alaska Board of Regents on Thursday approved a new doctoral program for the Fairbanks campus, a program university leaders say will help fill a “growing need” for advanced research and academic opportunities. The Indigenous Studies doctoral program was developed by the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ School of Education and College of Rural and Community Development, according to a summary of the plan … “Such a program will illustrate the Alaska Native cultures across the state of Alaska as well as the contributions made by the Alaska Native community in general to Alaska in education, economy and social justice,” AFN vice president Nelson Angapak wrote in an e-mail to the Daily News-Miner.
