Aklavik, Northwest Territories: Delta elder relives the past

Northern News Services – A well-respected elder in the community and region, the mother of nine watched the Delta grow and develop over the last 90 years. “There was nobody in the Delta, no Inuvik, it was just all bush,” Kendi said of the early days when she was young.  “It was wonderful when Aklavik started,” she said. “It started at the point along the channel. The Jones men built log houses there. That’s how it started.”
