2009 Maddison Chair Lecture: “Arctic Front: The Sovereignty Debate and the Future of the Canadian North” (by Dr. Ken Coates)

Circumpolar Musings – Dr. Ken Coates gave the 2009 Maddison Chair in Northern Justice Lecture, “Arctic Front: The Sovereignty Debate and the Future of the Canadian North,” at Yukon College (April 2, 2009).  Dr. Coates is the author of numerous books and collected works, and was recently nominated as a finalist for the 2008/2009 Donner Prize in Canadian public policy writing for “Arctic Front: Defending Canada in the Far North” (Thomas Allen Publishers).  The Donner Canadian Foundation says of the work: “A truly integrated volume by four of Canada’s leading Northern specialists, Arctic Front is a clarion call to all Canadians about our endangered Arctic region, challenging the country to step away from the symbols and myth making of the past and toward the urgent political, environmental and economic realities of the 21st century.”  The audio and video of the lecture will soon be available from the Circumpolar Musings website at Yukon College.
